Dr. Prashant Garg is Executive Chairman of L V Prasad Eye Institute. He is also the Paul Dubord chair of Cornea, and network director of eye banks of the institute.

His primary area of interest and ongoing research is Corneal infection and has published extensively on epidemiology, clinical features of rare infections, antibiotic resistance in ocular isolates and drug delivery systems.

He has published 199 research articles in the peer reviewed journals. With total citation of 4221 he has the h-index of 37. For last two consecutive years his name appeared in the list of top 2% researchers of the world – a list published from Stanford University.

He is member of various national and international ophthalmology societies including American Academy of Ophthalmology, Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology, All India ophthalmology Society and Asia cornea society. He is on the board of International Joint Commission for Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO), Eye and Contact Lens Association (ECLA) and the ICO subcommittee on allied health education. He is member of advisory board of World Health Organization (WHO) committee on tissue banking. He also served as the president of the Ocular Microbiology Immunology Group (2013). He is member of the editorial board of the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, and Eye and Contact lens Journal. Most recently he has been selected to be included as a member of the Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis – a university-centred international organisation committed to excellence in education, research, and culturally appropriate medical services to preserve and restore vision for people of the world.

He is recipient of several awards including the “senior achievement award” from the American Academy of Ophthalmology (2013) and achievement award of Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology 2013. He is member of the UKRI International Development Peer Review College.

Dr. Meenakshi Swaminathan, MD, currently is an Ophthalmology consultant at The Capstone Clinic, Chennai, India and Visiting professor at Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Chennai.

Residency and fellowship trained in the USA, she worked at Medical Research Foundation, Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai for 20 years and as the Director Academics for fourteen years of those twenty. She practices Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. She has worked with the ICO, ORBIS on various projects and initiatives in education. She worked with the All India Ophthalmological Society as Chairperson of the ‘Teachers in Ophthalmology’ initiative. She serves as the Chairperson of the Mentoring Programs subcommittee of the OFEC.

Dr Pranesh Balasubramaniam pursued his Master in Ophthalmology from the prestigious Aravind Eye Hospital & PG Institute of Ophthalmology, Madurai. He has worked as a Medical Officer in Cataract Services and pursued his Retina Fellowship at Aravind Eye Hospital - Coimbatore. He currently works as a Clinical Teaching Fellow at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS, London, training undergraduate and postgraduate students in Ophthalmology.

 His unrelenting passion for teaching made him start a YouTube channel, which goes by his name, where he provides easy-to-understand lectures on ophthalmology targeting residents & clinicians across the world. He has self-published numerous free downloadable e-books for students and patients.

To de-monopolize knowledge and equalize education, he strives to provide simple, accessible, and authentic content for anyone who wants to learn about the eye under the ‘Teach To Reach’ campaign.

Prof. Muhammad Moin is Principal College of Ophthalmology & Allied Visual Sciences  & Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at King Edward Medical University, Mayo Hospital, Lahore. He has done his FRCS from Edinburgh, FRCOphth from London and Oculoplastics Fellowship from Cincinnati, USA. He practices Oculoplastics & Orbital Surgery for the last 20 years and he is currently the President of the Ophthalmological Society of Pakistan. He has served as the General Secretary of Ophthalmological Society of Pakistan, Lahore Branch and Editor in Chief of Pakistan Journal of Ophthalmology He is currently the chair of the APAO leadership development program and member of the Ophthalmology Foundation. He has received the Holmes lecture award, distinguished service award and achievement awards by APA. He is also the recipient of American Academy of Ophthalmology’s International Scholar Award and International Ophthalmologist Education Award. He holds a Master’s degree in Medical Education from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan and has given invited lectures on Oculoplastics and medical education lectures at more than 200 occasions and has 70 publications and two book to his credit.

Dr. Helena Prior Filipe is a Doctor in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon and an Ophthalmologist by the Instituto Dr. Gama Pinto and the Portuguese Medical Association. She practices as a Consultant of Ophthalmology at Hospital Egas Moniz, West Lisbon Hospitals Center, Portuguese (NHS). Her main field of interest in ophthalmology has been cornea and ocular surface and ultrasound examination.          

After taking her master’s degree in medical education (summa cum laude) from the Portuguese Catholic University in Lisbon, she became involved in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) with a particular interest in underserved communities, mentorship, curriculum development, and technology-enhanced learning.

She concluded the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE) Essential Skills for Continuing Professional Development, the University of Toronto International Foundations Program in CPD, and the Leading and Influencing Change in CPD.

Helena received the Certified Professional in CPD (Healthcare) Credential (CPC(HC)) by the Leadership Team of the Coalition on Physician Learning and Practice Improvement of Canada.

She has been serving several supranational and global organizations in ophthalmology and in health professions education, has lectured in ophthalmology and in medical education around the world and has published in peer review scientific journals.

Helena is a Fellow of AMEE, a Fellow of the Society for Academic Continuing Medical Education (SACME), and a Fellow of the European Academy of Clinical Leadership.

She specializes in ophthalmic oncology, conducting research on: the use of transcorneal thermotherapy in the treatment of intraocular cancer metastases, optimization of the management of melanocytic lesions of the conjunctiva, the management of choroidal hemangiomas, the properties of the fibrin network in patients with retinal vein occlusion, the cause of recurrence of choroidal melanoma treated with Ru-106 brachytherapy. In January 2011, in cooperation with the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, she co-founded the establishment of the first Proton Radiotherapy Laboratory in Poland.

She has introduced innovative surgical techniques that are applied in practice: new methods of surgical treatment of intraocular tumors (2003., 2004.), proton therapy method (January 2011.), brachytherapy with Ru-106 (1995), brachytherapy with I-125 (1997).

She was the Promoter of 16 defended doctoral theses, a reviewer in many postdoctoral proceedings (18), and proceedings for the conferral of the title of Professor of Medical Sciences (13), and doctoral theses (17).

In 2016, he initiated a collaboration between Moorfields Eye Hospital and Google DeepMind, with the aim of developing artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms for the earlier detection and treatment of retinal disease. In August 2018, the first results of this collaboration were published in the journal, Nature Medicine. In May 2020, he jointly led work, again published in Nature Medicine, to develop an early warning system for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), by far the commonest cause of blindness in many countries. In 2023, he led the development of RETFound, the first foundation model in ophthalmology, published in Nature and made available open source.

Prof. Reda Žemaitienė is Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences and Hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kauno Klinikos; Head of the Cornea and uveitis sector. A member of the Anterior Segment Rare Eye Disease group and the representative of the Hospital of the Hospital of LSMU in ERN-EYE. A national delegate of Lithuania in EBO and the country representative to the SOE. A member of ESCRS and vice president of the Lithuanian Ophthalmological Society. Professor is an author of 8  textbooks and 146 scientific articles. The main field of interest: cataract, glaucoma, cornea, uveitis, and pediatric rare eye diseases.

Francesco Carones, MD is Physician CEO and Medical Director of the Carones Ophthalmology Center located in Milan, Italy, where he performs refractive and cataract surgery.

Dr. Carones is involved in refractive surgery since 1989 when he started pioneering the use of excimer laser. He participated at several clinical trials, including the first human study on hyperopia correction using erodible masks. He explored the application of mitomycin C after laser surgery. He was among the first to have access to the tracker-assisted flying-spot ablation technology and to propose LASEK. Currently he is a clinical investigator for major surgical companies. As for lens surgery, he was the first to implant a toric multifocal IOL, as well as a low power add multifocal IOL. His cataract and refractive surgery practice also include phakic IOLs, intracorneal ring segments, corneal inlays, corneal cross-linking, and refractive keratotomy.

Dr. Carones published many papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals, books and book chapters on refractive and cataract surgery and corneal topography. His research activities lead him to lecture and present at major meetings on refractive surgery worldwide, including AAO, ASCRS, ESCRS, and ISRS. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Refractive surgery and member of the most important Editorial Boards. He currently serves as Board Member of several national and international Ophthalmology Societies, and he is Member of the Advisory Board of major ophthalmic companies.

Dr. Basak Bostanci graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Ankara in 2007. She completed her specialty training in Ankara Atatürk Training and Research Hospital in 2012, with her thesis on "Clinical results of different multifocal intraocular lenses with diffractive-refractive properties".

In 2011, she worked as a "Cataract and Anterior Segment" Research Fellow under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Samuel Masket at the University of California (UCLA), accredited Advanced Vision Care clinic in the USA. She’s been an observer-ophthalmologist at Antwerp University Hospital, Belgium under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Marie-Jose Tassignon, and at IROC Eye Clinic in Switzerland under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Theo Seiler.

Dr. Bostanci is currently working as a cataract and refractive surgeon at World Eye Hospital, Istanbul and also a member and Assoc. Prof. at Bahcesehir University, Istanbul.

She is an active member of Turkish Ophthalmology Association, TOD Cataract and Refractive Surgery Subunit, American Society of Cataract Refractive Surgeons, European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, ESCRS Publications committee. She’s taken place as a speaker in ESCRS Podcasts series and was an active committee member of Young Ophthalmologists at ESCRS.

Last year, Dr. Bostanci was one of our CEEMA Innovation Summit speakers at ESCRS, and recently attended to our AMA (Astigmatism Management Academy) project in Johnson&Johnson VEC (Vision Excellence Center), Barcelona in May, as a faculty member to train young ophthalmologists for astigmatism awareness and correction with toric IOLs.

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Assaf is professor of Ophthalmology at the faculty of medicine at Ain Shams University, he is a fellow of the royal college of surgeons of Edinburgh and a consultant of phacorefractive surgery in Al-Watany eye hospital in Cairo.

Cataract surgery with premium IOLs is his primary focus, together with the implementation of Femtosecond laser technology. He started to implant presbyopia-correcting IOLs since 2002 and has substantial experience in various designs of multifocal, new trifocal, and extended depth of focus IOLs.

He has a particular interest in complicated cataract surgery.

Dr. Aixa Alarcon is a senior Principal Scientist R&D working on the design and development of intraocular lenses for Johnson and Johnson Vision in Groningen.

She completed her PhD in Physics at the same university in 2011 and worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Rochester (NY, US). Professor Aldo Wagge is a surgeon specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases. He obtained a degree in Medicine and Surgery and a specialization in Ophthalmology with the highest grades and honors from the University of Genoa. He specializes in Strabology, Pediatric Ophthalmology and Ocular Genetics in Philadelphia, USA.

His academic career began at the University of Genoa as a university researcher. Since 2023 - associate professor of the Department of Ophthalmology. He is the author of numerous English-language publications and book chapters. He is a member of the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS), the European Reference Network for Rare Eye Diseases (ERN EYE), as well as other associations in the ophthalmology sector.

He is currently in charge of the Strabology, Pediatric Ophthalmology and Ocular Genetics Service of the University Eye Clinic of Genoa, DINOGMI, San Martino Polyclinic."

Luigi Fontana - Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of the Ophthalmology Department of the S.Orsola Hospital of the University of Bologna since 2021. Director of the Resincy Program in Ophthalmology from 2022.

After completing a postgraduate program in ophthalmology at the University of Bologna, he completed a fellowship at the Institute of Ophthalmology, University College London, a glaucoma fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, and a corneal fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. The doctoral dissertation is devoted to the vascular pathogenesis of normal pressure glaucoma. Dr. Fontana has worked for more than 20 years in the treatment of complex diseases of the anterior segment of the eye, including cornea, ocular surface, cataract and glaucoma.
