    Since 1972, Frank Krogmann has been engaged in historical research, especially in genealogy. Since about 1990, he has been researching the history of medicine, especially in the field of ophthalmology. Since about 2000, he has been managing director of the JULIUS-HIRSCHBERG-GESELLSCHAFT headquarters: Vienna - [Association for the History of Ophthalmology].   • Dr. Hunter Cherwek
    Dr. Hunter Cherwek is a global ophthalmologist with a specific career interest on how training and technologies can be used to eliminate avoidable blindness in low resource communities around the world. Dr. Cherwek received his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina (UNC)- Chapel Hill and his medical degree from Duke University. After his transitional year at Scripps Hospital, he completed his residency in ophthalmology at Emory University where he was elected Chief Resident. Immediately upon graduating from Emory, Hunter joined Orbis International (www.orbis.org) where he was able to lecture and work in over 20 countries aboard the Flying Eye Hospital (FEH) and help build the telemedicine/distance learning platform (www.cybersight.org). After working with Orbis International, he was based in Beijing, China, for six years working with Alcon as the Medical Director of Strategic Markets to help improve surgical training efforts and access to quality cataract care in Asia & Russia. Most recently, Dr. Cherwek has returned to Orbis International to continue to support its clinical training efforts and patient care programs as Vice President, Clinical Services & Technologies
  • Dr. Helena P. Filipe
    Helena Prior Filipe, MD, MMEd, FSACME, FAMEE, CPC (HC), FEACL, is a clinician-educator who integrates advanced ophthalmic practice with global leadership in health professions education. A graduate in Medicine from the University of Lisbon and trained in Ophthalmology at Instituto Dr. Gama Pinto, she serves as Consultant in the Department of Ocular Surface and Cornea at Hospital de Egas Moniz, Western Lisbon Local Health Unit, and as Associate Researcher at the Egas Moniz Center for Interdisciplinary Research. Clinically, her expertise includes ocular surface disease, cornea, cataract surgery, and ultrasound, with active participation in international consortia on ophthalmic drug delivery. Helena has recently been chairing the department of low vision and rehabilitation.
    Equally dedicated to education, Helena earned a master’s degree in medical education (summa cum laude) and has since advanced innovation in continuing professional development (CPD), curriculum design, simulation-based education, and mentorship. She has chaired educational committees for several global professional organizations, such as ICO, ARVO, the Ophthalmology Foundation, AMEE, and the European Board of Ophthalmology, among others. Recognized as a Fellow of AMEE, SACME, and the European Academy of Clinical Leadership, Helena continues to shape global faculty development and CPD with a commitment to excellence and collaboration

  • Dr. Lauren A. Dalvin
    Dr. Lauren A. Dalvin is an Ocular Oncologist and Associate Professor of Ophthalmology with Joint Appointments in Medical Oncology and Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. She has served in numerous leadership positions, including AAO Council (Subspecialty Society Representative for AAOOP), the International Society of Ocular Oncology (Treasurer), American Association of Ophthalmic Oncologists and Pathologists (Nominating Committee, Scientific Meeting Planning Committee, AAO Council Representative), Pan-American Ocular Oncology Society (English Language Secretary), and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (Annual Meeting Planning Committee). She also serves on the AAO ONE Network Oncology/Pathology Subcommittee and the American Board of Ophthalmology Oncology/Pathology Exam Development Committee. Dr. Dalvin has a busy clinical and surgical practice and is also dedicated to running a translational science research laboratory. She has over 200 peer-reviewed publications, and her laboratory focuses on development of novel models to support preclinical uveal melanoma drug studies, having successfully established a one-of-a-kind patient-derived organoid biobank. Dr. Dalvin serves on the editorial boards for Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, Translational Vision Science & Technology, European Journal of Ophthalmology, and Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, and she is the Associate Medical Editor for the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s EyeNet magazine. Dr. Dalvin is passionate about multidisciplinary, team-based eye cancer care and advancing the field through quality clinical and translational research
  • Prof. Christopher Liu
    Professor Christopher Liu OBE is a clinician scientist specialising in anterior segment surgery. He led the National Osteo-odonto-keratoprosthesis Service in the UK until the service moved to Moorfields Eye Hospital. He has published close to 300 scientific papers and numerous book chapters, as well as edited three textbooks. He has been at the helm of many national ophthalmic societies. He was Honorary Treasurer and Trustee of the Royal College of Ophthalmologist until 2025. He was made an Honorary Fellow of the College in 2024, the highest accolade the College can confer to any individual and limited to no more than 100 in number at any one time. He runs a private practice in Brighton, England, provides a comprehensive corneal service to the entire Scottish Highlands from the National Treatment Centre in Inverness, and is the Chief Ophthalmologist in Hong Kong, his birth place
  • Dr. Steven Yeh
    Dr. Yeh currently is currently Professor of Ophthalmology and the Stanley Truhlsen Jr. Chair, Director of Retina and Uveitis at the Truhlsen Eye Institute, University of Nebraska Medical Center. After undergraduate training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Yeh attended Baylor College of Medicine for medical training, where he then completed Ophthalmology Residency. He then pursued fellowship training in Uveitis and Medical Retina at the National Institutes of Health, followed by a Fellowship in Retinal Surgery at Oregon Health and Science University.
    Dr. Yeh currently leads a clinical service, education and research program that includes the clinical care and study of uveitis, retinal disease, and global ophthalmic health. Dr. Yeh and his research team members have published numerous articles on infectious diseases of the eye, suprachoroidal drug delivery, and the pathogenesis of eye disease associated with high consequence and emerging infectious pathogens including Ebola, Lassa, COVID-19, and Mpox.
    Dr. Yeh has provided care and investigated the pathogenesis of uveitis in Ebola survivors in the U.S., West Africa, and Central Africa. Recent efforts have focused on understanding the vision-threatening, ophthalmic sequelae of mpox within Western and Central Africa. Through these effort, Dr. Yeh and his team have been developing vision health systems strengthening programs, particularly vitreoretinal surgery and clinical research capacity.
    Dr. Yeh is currently a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists, Macula Society, Retina Society, American Uveitis Society, and WHO Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network
  • Maura Di Nicola, MD
    Maura Di Nicola, MD is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, who specializes in adult and pediatric ocular oncology, inflammatory and retinal diseases. She serves as the Medical Director of Imaging and Ultrasound Services at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. She chairs the Young Ocular Oncology Committee of the International Society of Ocular Oncology and the Education Committee for the Young Uveitis Specialists section of the American Uveitis Society. She served as President for the PanAmerican Ocular Oncology Society in 2025. Additionally, she serves as VP of Health Policy and Practice Management for the Vit-Buckle Society and as a Young Ophthalmology Delegate for the Pan-American Association in Ophthalmology. Dr. Di Nicola is a member of the editorial board of American Journal of Ophthalmology International and Ocular Immunology and Inflammation. Her research interests include diagnosis and treatment of adult and pediatric tumors, ocular inflammatory diseases, as well as retinal diseases, with a focus on multimodal imaging
